Old Italian Car Brand ‘Ermini’ Reborn
Ermini may not be a brand you are familiar with. It is an old Italian automobile manufacturer, renowned in the Italian motor racing circuit, which manufactured its last racer over half a century ago. However, the Florentine company is reviving the brand with a very interesting new model, currently called the 686. Ermini promises the finished product will be easy to maintain thanks to a lightweight construction, offer low emissions and responsible fuel consumption.
While details are scarce, the early design renders show the promise of familiar Italian styling. However the interesting choice to hire Giulio Cappellini is what may turn heads. Again an unfamiliar name, what sets Giulio apart is that he has no previous experience in the automotive sector. He has simply been tasked with designing the 686 with the straightforward concept of “beauty” as a springboard. He certainly looks to be on the right track if the early renderings are anything to go by, emphasizing smooth curves and a sleek contemporary look whilst maintaining its classic heritage.
Scheduled for a 2013 release, Ermini hope to prioritise the dynamic drive of light and nippy cars over the inertial mass of automobiles with large engines, and being a completely carbon fibre build will certainly help towards this goal.
“With this car, lovers of those uncompromising vintage sports cars with their distinctive dynamism, long since replaced by modern supercars, will finally be able to enjoy themselves…”, Chairman of Ermini Automobili Italia, Eugenio Ercoli.
